Holly Raychelle Hughes is a young adult author and essayist. Her short stories appear in a variety of publications. She contributes back matter essays to the highly reviewed Barnes and Noble Best of 2017  and March 2018 Image Comic GLITTERBOMB. An essay of Holly’s went viral on xoJane.com, was picked up by Yahoo!, Time.com, and the Daily Mail. More of her stories appear on Kveller.com and CafeMom.com.

Holly was a board member of the Women’s National Book Association Charlotte Chapter, and a contributor to My School Rocks Magazine. Along with being a writer, Holly was a film and television producer for 18 years and is now an intuitive healer and medium. When she’s not writing she sees dead people, dances, and celebrates all thing Halloween.

Offer
First fifty pages. If you like my notes and we work well together I’m happy to give notes on your full MS. Timeline of notes to be determined once we begin working. These will be big picture notes, about story, voice, pacing, NOT GRAMMAR. I’m not a line editor. I’m here to help you work through the plot holes, emotional craft of the story, and character arc.

Wishlist
Give me your magical, weird stories. I can handle dark if it’s not full of gratuitous gore, assault, and tropes. I’m looking for emotional resonance.
Think Mindy McGinnis A Madness So Discreet, Nova Ren Suma’s The Walls Around Us, Gayle Forman’s If I Stay, Lauren Oliver’s Before I Fall or the Michelle Hodkin The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer book one in the series, or Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

I’m going to work hard for you, so I need someone committed who can receive direct feedback. I’m absolutely happy to share my experiences in other contests, I was never selected for Pitch Wars, but made friends on Twitter from it and went on to be selected for other contests one of which landed me my agent. I believe in helping lift up other writers. One can’t have too many advocates on a creative journey.

Holly prefers stand alone books. Additionally, her current WIP has a main character that's Death. If you have this in your manuscript, too, Holly will have to pass due to conflict of interest.
